Netball: We are Walking Naked before the World Because of You, Delegates Conference Puts a Total Ban On Anek

Under the leadership of Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah, Uganda Netball Federation held it’s first Annual General Assembly yesterday at Old Kampala SS which approved and passed a number of issues for the good of the game.

Among the top talking subject in that AGM that had at least 175 delegates out of the 240 who are eligible to sit in that Conference, was the total banning of the former UNF President, Susan Anek Ongom from not getting involved in any Netball activities at all levels.

Delegates are accusing Anek for putting the game of Netball in dispute and lowering the dignity of the country Uganda before the world’s face.

“I request this Assembly since you are the supreme body of this game, who decides the future of our game, who work hard to see that Netball is on top in all aspects, please join me and we totally ban Madam Susan Anek not to come close to our game again, we put a serious ban on her because of what she did, undressing our Netball before the world, putting a shame on us, please members allow me to move this motion and support me. ” Akena Patrick, a delegate moved the motion. 

After moving the motion, the Parliament went on fire and one of the delegates who seconded the motion, in her submission asserted that if possible, Anek would be taken in prison for life imprisonment but since they don’t have that powers, let her [Anek] leave their game in peace because tried to put it in pieces.

The president, who was the Chairperson of the Assembly asked the delegates who are in support of the motion, at least 95% of the members in the house raised up both of their hands.

However, Susan Anek was just appointment by the state Minister for Sports Hon Hamson Obua and she is among the 11 members that make up the governing body of Sports in Uganda, the National Council of Sports.

Why Delegates were too furious and why did they totally ban Susan Anek? 

For starters, towards the end of January and start of this month, the federation and Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah, the president were dragged in courts of law and the accuses wanted Babirye to leave her seat as the president of the game and the fraternity received this news in good faith but they were not sure of who is behind the dirty move.

Later the president red-handed caught the former president Susan Anek as one of the persons behind the idea of putting the game of Netball in dispute. Anek was in secret talks with the president of south Africa Netball, Cecilia Molokwane and the message that president [Kityo] took a screenshot was saying that Babirye and her team are going to be history very soon only formalities are remaining.

When this message was projected before them, they accepted what they were calling rumors and some were in shock for what they saw and the great trust they had in Anek as a senior in the game of Netball.

In other items they moved, including the adoption of the new constitution amendments proposals, not allowing any executive member on Netball to be at any other executive and they approved a 28 bn shillings budget for 2022/23.
