Over 1000 Groups To Benefit From Emyooga Presidential Initiative In Kayunga District

Over one thousand groups from Kayunga district are to benefit from Emyooga, the initiative president put in place to curb poverty in Uganda.

According to Collins Kafeero Kiggundu, the in charge of Gender and development, Kayunga District, the district shall hugely benefit from the presidential initiative and if the money injected in is effectively utilized, it we will lead to change of livelihood of Kayunga residents and the district as well.

“Emyooga is a great initiative and we hope this money will help to change the lives of our people and will teach us to work hard and save.”

Kafeero revealed to this website that over 1000 groups ranging from those of teachers to boda boda riders are to be created before the end of this year.

“As Kayunga district we have three constituencies, that is Bbaale, Ntenjeru North and South, we are planning to have 1078 groups and so far we have fully registered 900 groups.”

“Initially government was to give us 640 Millions as Kayunga district but it increased it to 1.78Bn Uganda shillings and each constituency is expected to receive 640M.

“Emyooga is not all about getting money but to bring back the culture of saving in our people. Because the more you save, the more money will increase in your SACCO.” Kafeero explains.

The Emyooga initiative targets Ugandans from 18 clusters including Boda boda riders, taxi drivers, restaurants, welders, market vendors, women entrepreneurs, youth leaders, people with disabilities, journalists, performing artists, veterans, fishermen, and elected leaders who form saccos and each gets shs30 million as seed capital.

The district is also planning to finalize with all its programs before the end of 2020 despite the fact that they were affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

Among those programs, includes; giving the elderly, their monthly 25000/- each and they are to receive their money of these three months. Over 2000 elders are to receive.

People with disabilities are also to be catered for as well as women groups.
