We Haven’t Released You, MoH Cut Short Entertainment Industry Jubilation

Musicians and Bivulu promoters’s jubilation of coming back to work from lockdown of over nine months has been cut short by Ministry of Health.

Early on Wednesday, at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, the chairperson Board of Trustees of Uganda National Cultural Center, Mr. Sam Okello Kelo announced that the government has allowed the Art a d Culture sector to reopen starting Saturday 19th December 2020 provided they are to follow the Ministry of Health and COVID-19 SOPs. 

“I am therefore happy to announce that our sector (Arts and Culture) has now been opened to operate but with strict observance of the @MinofHealthUG COVID-19 guidelines & SOPs.” Sam Okello while at media Centre in Kampala.

However, few hours after the news circulation, the Ministry of Health via it’s official twitter handle, they refuted the news and said they haven’t set free the Entertainment industry.

“As indicated by the Ministry of Health in a statement read on 9 November 2020, under entertainment, ONLY cinemas were permitted to open on 14 November 2020 provided persons maintain a 2 meter distance in all directions and adhere to all COVID-19 preventive measures.” The first tweet reads.

“The Ministry of Health would like to state that entertainment centers or concerts have NOT BEEN OPENED as is being portrayed in sections of the media.
All bars, night clubs and discotheques remain closed.” The following tweet confirmed.

Now it’s not yet confirmed who is fulling who and when exactly the starving Entertainment industry will get back to work.

Most of the business sectors in Uganda are now back to normal working apart from the entertainment industry and Bars.
