In this category, the oldest sports website in Uganda, Kawowo Sports beat newbies in the game, Football 256 and Voice of Bugerere which is only a year old
Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) for the first time since it’s inception in 1970 has awarded the best personalities, not in sports disciplines but of it’s own, that is sports journalists.
For all along, the Association that bring together “all’ journalists covering sports news in Uganda been awarding the best performers in different sports disciplines at monthly and annual level but with the coming in of Patrick Kanyomozi, now the president with his vice, Leone Ssenyange, the Association initiated the idea of awarding the best scribes in the year and the idea manifested today, Wednesday, 15th December 2021 at Imperial Royale Hotel Kampala when the best were awarded.

Eight awards were on table for grab, including the Samuel Wossita (Website, E- Journals Podcast of the year, where the giants in headlines (Voice of Bugerere) were nominated.
In this category, the oldest sports website in Uganda, Kawowo Sports beat newbies in the game, Football 256 and Voice of Bugerere which is only a year old.
“It was hard to get local content online, a man in Joseph Owino who had digital knowledge contacted me [Ismail Kiyonga] who had knowledge of writing and passion for local sports…. Kawowo, has built a number of good sports scribes, Clive Kyazze of Football 256 is a child of Kawowo.
On behalf of Kawowo Sports, I thank USPA and partners for this award.” Said Ismail Kiyonga, who represented Kawowo Sports, the winner of Samuel Wossita Award.
Each winner walked away with an accolade and cash prize of one million shillings, the runners up grabbed a full package of StarTimes decoders.
The veteran Journalist, Mpalanyi Ssentongo of Vision Group won the Lifetime Achievement Award, the emotional Ssentongo also won one million shillings plus a fully sponsored trip to Mombasa Kenya, courtesy of Uganda Airlines and PrideInn Hotels.
The Association president, Patrick’District’Kanyomozi thanked the winners, the sponsors who made the awards event Colorful. The Robert Kyagulanyi diehard, revealed that it’s just a begining, more is what in future, despite the fact he has only one year on his term.
