Politicians, Religious Leaders in one ‘Basket’ as they Call for Immediate Reopening of Worship Centres

In his last state of the nation address about Covid-19, His Excellency the president of Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni partly lifted the lockdown of 42 days that commenced on Friday 18th June 2021.
However, among the institutions that were not given green light to operate, Worship Centres were inclusive, With these, the president added 60 days while the Taskforces and Minister monitor the dynamics of the disease.
In this period, a number cases about domestic violence and mass killings of innocent were reported.
Basing on those statistics and state of the nation security wise, the religious leaders and politicians came out with one voice to request the President to lift the lockdown on worship centres.
Today at Hotel Triangle on Buganda Road, the religious leaders headed by Sheikh Ssemakula Asuman from Masijid Central Kitintale together with Prophet Michael Kiganda from Glory to Glory Ministries Bugolobi raised one common voice that the government should reopen All worship centers in Uganda.
These leaders say that, Without worship centres, domestic violence sharply raised due to the fact that so many people have lost hope.
The human killings especially the bijambia in Masaka realistically tells that people do nolonger have religion in their hearts and therefore, the leaders are saying that no way to bring back people from wrong doing apart from reopening of the worship centres.
“Since Ugandan motto says that for God and my country this means that no one can separate God to this universe and God should be the first priority then others follow.” Said Sheikh Asuman Ssemakula while addressing media on Wednesday.
Prophet Michael Kiganda of Glory to Glory Ministries say
“We can follow each and every standard operating procedures like social distancing, washing our hands and put on the masks, it’s possible to our followers in churches and mosque”.
The National Unity Platform, Vice President in charge of Northern region, Lina Zedriga said that the country is very dirty need to go before God to be cleansed.
“We would like to go to church, we would like to go to worship centres, we need God, we are very dirty, we need to be cleansed.”
The Nakawa East Legislator, Eng. Ronald Balimwezo, Hon Alice Alaso, Counsel Eve Ikoba, Sheik Luyinda Abdul Wahab of Nakawa Market, Tomusange Isma all joined their voices to demand the reopening of worship centres.
