Kayunga By-election: Who Should Be the best Candidate for LCV Seat, Madada Opinionate

Kayunga District got its independence from Mukono in 2000.

The acting chair is Joel Kayiira who replaced Ffeffeka Sserubogo Muhammad who died few days after swearing in, he passed away on 16th June 2021.

So the Election commission has a task to organize by-election for the residents of Kayunga District to elect a new full Chairman to whom they believe can take them forward.

At least 30 people showed interest in taking the seat, but you think who could be the right person to take the mantle of a district that is in a number of social, economic and political challenges.

The former Bbaale Constituency legislator and political veteran, Hon. Suliaman Madada revealed the qualities one need to lead Kayunga District as Chair.

Remember he was on interim committee that governed Kayunga District in 2000, that had him,Steven Dagada,Wasswa Abubaker,Ssebagereka Late.

According to you, Which leader at LCV level can drive Kayunga District forward?

A good leader for Kayunga District must know the challenges faced by the People which made them to yearn for District from Mukono to which we got in 2000.

These challenges include Roads which are really poor. 

The Education system of Kayunga because in the 90s Bbaale was used to be called the Karamoja of Mukono due to poor performance and even now it’s not better.

A leader fit for the district must know the vision of the District because this is far different from that of the Country. Some politicians take office with no clear vision and to make matters worse they at times lack the knowledge about the vision of the position they have.

A good leader for our District (Kayunga) must be knowing the power of District Chairperson in this Decentralization government.

Many of the local government leaders we elect don’t know their rights, responsibility and the local government potential.

You can not be a local government leader when you are not updated about the current global and National development policy and this must be a concern when electing our Chairperson LCV.

✓ Someone to take the sit of LCV, he/she must understand the People he/she leads. Take an example of Education, he must know the level of Education of the local People.

✓Their believes and religions, many People in Kayunga have a strong attachment and believes in traditional witchdoctors meaning a leader must be ready to sensitize the local People to attend to health facilities not trusting Juuju.

✓Participatory Development, a good leader must have a skill of mobilization. Kayunga we have many low income earners but keep insisting to take their children to Universities and end up not finishing school.  A good leader here should find a way of making parents trusting vocational education.

✓Wave of Political Change, we may be yearning for a District chairperson to come from opposition take example from National Unity Platform (NUP) or any other party but we should not forget that the ruling Party is NRM and this might bring conflict of interest.

✓Divisions in Political Camps, in Kayunga District, many Politicians create own wrangles and start fighting one another for their own benefits which ends up affecting the common People. So a leader to take Kayunga to the heights he/she must be ready to look for ways of mending relationships and togetherness. 

✓Tribal Issues, in Kayunga we have issues of Banyara, Baganda and many other tribes meaning a leader for such a position must be aware of that and ready to handle them professionally and with maturity.

✓Economic Activities, most People in Kayunga are Agriculturalists, Cattle Keepers, Farmers and Peasants and do Fishing as well.

A good leader fit for the post of Chairperson must be ready to lob Agricultural workshops, look for serious market and also stand with them with voices where need be.
