A Girl In Butalejja Turns Mother At 13

Early child marriage in Uganda especially in East is still a big challenge, Uganda government should put much emphasis to curb.

A juvenile in Butalejja District got involved in marriage acts at early as the stage of 12 years

Asha Nabawanuka now a resident of Mazzimassa sub county, Butalejja district said she was impregnated when she was only 12 years as a result of looking for how to survive after being rejected by her biological mother.

“Mummy left me with grand mother who was also needy and she could not afford to meet my needs and as a result I decided to leave grand mother home and look for a better place to live in and in the process I ended up getting pregnant at the age of 12 and I gave birth when I was 13.”  Asha narrates.

The funny part of Asha’s story is that even her mother was 13yrs old at the time she gave birth to her (Asha).

In a simple calculation Asha’s mother became a grand at the age of 26 years.

Asha and other many girls outside Kampala found themselves in such cases, and this mainly come because of poverty in remote areas.

Despite the fact that Asha gave birth when she was 13 years old , but she is not the world’s youngest mother. The world’s youngest mother Lina Medina who gave birth when she was only 6 years old.

Lina Medina a peruvian girl born in 1933 began her menstruating at the age of 8 months, was tragically raped as a 5 year old and gave birth at 6years and five months, she is the youngest confirmed mother in medical history.

Medina is still alive today, her son born by Caesarean section was raised as her brother.
