Badminton Uganda Hosts Shuttle Time Tutor Course to Strengthen Grassroots Development

Badminton Uganda, in partnership with the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA), has intensified efforts to strengthen grassroots badminton development through a three-day Shuttle Time Tutor Course currently underway at CFK Academy.
The high-level training workshop, taking place in Kisaasi, has attracted nine participants, including eight Ugandans and one representative from Somalia, in what organizers describe as a strategic move to expand badminton knowledge and teaching capacity across schools in the region.
The Shuttle Time Tutor Course is aimed at establishing a sustainable “train-the-trainer” system by equipping tutors with the pedagogical and technical expertise needed to mentor school teachers as the Shuttle Time programme continues to spread into academic institutions nationwide.
Organizers emphasized that the evolving demands of badminton development require tutors and leaders with a strong technical understanding of the sport to guarantee quality instruction and effective knowledge transfer to learners.
Leading the course is Dr. Ahmed Reda from Egypt, who is serving as the lead facilitator on behalf of the BCA.
Dr. Reda highlighted the importance of balancing technical proficiency with adult education techniques, noting that the tutors are expected to train school teachers and therefore must understand how to manage, communicate with and effectively engage mature learners.
Participants welcomed the initiative and expressed appreciation to Badminton Uganda for creating an opportunity that they believe will elevate badminton instruction and professionalism within schools and communities.
The comprehensive curriculum covers several areas of professional development, including interpersonal management, effective communication, handling diverse personalities and logistical preparedness for training sessions.
Tutors are also being trained on the importance of proper session preparation, including the use of demonstration videos, rackets and shuttlecocks, while confidence and mastery of content remain key pillars of the programme to ensure trainers deliver lessons with clarity and authority.
The workshop will conclude on Wednesday, with successful participants expected to receive certificates recognizing them as certified Shuttle Time specialists capable of mentoring the next generation of badminton instructors across the region.
