Kayunga District Qualifiers: St Mark of High Grade, Round one Climaxes with Talking Points

The Kayunga District Secondary Schools Sports Association U20 Boys’ Football qualifiers kicked off over the weekend with thrilling action after more than 32 schools were drawn to compete for a place in the next stage.

Among the standout performers was St Mark High School Kayunga, who sent a strong message to their rivals after registering the biggest victory of this year’s qualifiers. The Felix Ssekabuuza-coached side thrashed BLK Muwonge Secondary School 10–0 during the group matches played at St Mathias Kalemba Secondary School in Nazigo.

St Mark High School was drawn in Group E alongside Kitatya Secondary School, BLK Muwonge SS from Kyabazala, and Busaana Secondary School.

They began their campaign in impressive fashion with a convincing 4–0 victory over Kitatya Secondary School. Hakaya Mbazira and Makai Jaziru Jamani each scored a brace, although the team squandered several additional scoring opportunities.

In their second match, St Mark delivered a ruthless attacking display against BLK Muwonge Secondary School, running out 10–0 winners in the most emphatic result of the qualifiers so far.

Target man Hakaya Mbazira led the goal fest with a four-goal haul, while Makai Jaziru Jamani and Kaliisa Joseph Allan each grabbed a brace. Musa Ssengendo and Sam Emokot added a goal apiece to complete the dominant performance.

St Mark sealed a perfect group stage campaign with a 3–0 victory over neighbours Busaana Secondary School in their final match. Musa Ssengendo, Makai Jaziru Jamani, and Shakur Ssendikadiwa were all on target.

Elsewhere in the group matches played at St Kalemba Nazigo, Busaana Secondary School defeated BLK Muwonge SS 2–0 before repeating the same scoreline against Kitatya Secondary School. In another encounter, Kitatya edged BLK Muwonge 1–0.

Following the conclusion of the group stage, sixteen schools have progressed to the Round of 16 and will convene on Wednesday for the draws of the second round.

The teams that have qualified include Namagabi SS, Hope Christian, Kitimbwa Bright Future, Oxford High School, Kisega High School, St Kalemba, Musiitwa Seed School, Uganda Martyrs Kayunga, St Mark High School, Busaana SS, Hopeful Future SS, Kangulumira Public SS, Muyallen High School, Galiraya Seed School, Ndeeba SS, and Kingston College School.

At the end of the district qualifiers, four schools from Kayunga will advance to the Mukono Zone qualifiers. The zone is yet to confirm the host district and school.

According to the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) allocation, Mukono Zone has been granted three slots for the national U20 Boys’ Football Championship, which will be hosted at Lira Town College in Lira.
