Pepsi UFL: Mukiibi Strikes Twice as St Lawrence Beat Lira

St. Lawrence University tightened their grip on Group D with a commanding 3-0 victory over Lira University on Tuesday at Crown City Stadium in Kavule, Mpigi District.

The three-time league finalists delivered a clinical performance to move to six points from two matches, underlining their status as serious contenders again.

Despite the defeat, Lira University — making their presence felt among the established sides — showed flashes of promising football. However, their inability to convert chances proved costly against a ruthless St. Lawrence side that maximized every clear opportunity.

Ivan Okello James broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute, calmly finishing off a well-worked move set up by Mukiibi Sharafah to hand St. Lawrence a deserved lead at the break.

Sharafah, who had turned provider for the opener, switched roles in the second half and stole the spotlight with a brilliant brace. The forward doubled the advantage in the 61st minute, finishing from Owane Yasin’s assist, before sealing the emphatic win in the 88th minute after being teed up by substitute Ssemanda Muhamud.

The result leaves St. Lawrence University firmly in control of Group D with maximum points, needing at least a draw in their final group match away to Gulu University to guarantee progression.

Kabale University, who sit on two points, will host Bishop Stuart University on Wednesday as the race for qualification intensifies.
