SC Villa Launches Historic Souvenir Magazine Ahead of Crucial AGM

SC Villa has officially unveiled its first-ever souvenir magazine as part of activities to mark the club’s 50th anniversary, setting the tone for a pivotal Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for Sunday, March 1.
The commemorative publication captures Villa’s rich legacy since its founding in 1975, highlighting its 17 league titles and nine Uganda Cup triumphs, while paying tribute to the players, administrators and supporters who have shaped one of Uganda’s most decorated football institutions.
The magazine launch comes at a defining moment for the record champions, with members set to convene in Kulambiro-Ntinda, Kampala, for an AGM that will feature the presentation of a four-year accountability report and the election of new leaders.
Club president Omar Ahmed Mandela, who returned to office in November 2021 after nearly two decades away, will seek another mandate. He faces competition from Farouk Meywa in what is expected to be a closely contested race.
Addressing journalists in Kampala, club spokesperson Asan Kasingye described the AGM as both a reflection point and a turning page.
“This is an opportunity to account to our members and also allow them to determine the leadership direction of their club,” Kasingye said, urging fully registered members interested in leadership roles to collect nomination forms during the meeting.
Among the major issues on the agenda will be the Shs3.2 billion compensation received from the Uganda National Roads Authority following the acquisition of the former Villa Park land. Trustees chairman Gerald Ssendaula earlier revealed that the funds were invested in a fixed deposit account and have since grown to Shs4.5 billion.
The club’s board has indicated plans to acquire new land, possibly along Entebbe Road, after the elections — a move seen as critical to securing Villa’s long-term infrastructure ambitions.
On the pitch, the Jogoos remain firmly in contention. They are currently third in the Uganda Premier League standings, four points behind leaders Vipers SC, and have progressed to the Round of 16 in the Uganda Cup.
As SC Villa celebrates five decades of excellence, Sunday’s AGM is expected to shape the next chapter of a club determined to blend its proud history with renewed ambition for the future.
