Team Bikolwa Rejects the Alleged Mandela’s Term Extension at SC Villa
A faction of SC Villa supporters under the banner of Team Bikolwa has openly rejected the alleged extension of Hajji Omar Ahmed Mandela’s leadership term, intensifying the wrangles within the club’s fan base.
The disagreement stems from a long-running leadership dispute between former supporters’ leader Hajji Omar Ahmed Mandela and his rival Hajji Farouk Meywa. Tensions escalated after claims emerged that Mandela had attended the previous supporters’ summit and addressed fans for two years without being formally re-elected.
Addressing a press conference at Old Kampala, at offices Hajji Meywa described as the legitimate SC Villa supporters’ offices, members of Team Bikolwa dismissed the reported term extension as null and void.
Meywa accused Mandela of sidelining genuine supporters in the decision-making process.
“It is sad that we left the case of Engineer Ben Misagga handing over our team to Lusaka Commodities. Now Hajji has done the same to turn it into the Mandela Group of Companies,” Meywa said. “All the people on the list that extended Mandela’s leadership are employees.”
Other supporters echoed similar sentiments. Sultan Hakim claimed he had been misled regarding the extension.
“It is unfortunate that Hajji cheated me to extend his term. We, as SC Villa fans, are not aware of it, and we do not agree with it,” Hakim said.
Hajjat Aisha Nassali also questioned the legitimacy of the move, suggesting the process lacked transparency and proper mandate.
“First of all, he did not get the leadership formally, and the term expired. How then does he extend it? These are non-sports politics,” she said.
The dispute comes at a time when the SC Villa Supporters Supreme Council, under the guidance of the club’s Board of Trustees, is in the process of outlining election plans scheduled for Sunday, March 1.
With rival camps holding firm positions, the unfolding standoff threatens to deepen divisions among the record Ugandan champions’ passionate fan base as they seek clarity on their leadership structure.
