Victoria University’s Century Rout,KU’s Display Highlights AUUS 2025 Basketball Opener

Victoria University and Kampala University men’s basketball teams made emphatic opening statements as the 2025 Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games basketball competition tipped off at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono.
Victoria University delivered the most dominant performance of the day, demolishing Gulu University 100–17 in a one-sided contest that underlined their pedigree and sent an early warning to title rivals UCU, Kampala University and Kampala International University. The lopsided victory immediately marked Victoria as a serious championship contender.
Kampala University also enjoyed a flying start to the tournament, registering two impressive wins in a demanding opening day schedule. The Ggaba-based side opened their campaign with a solid 79–65 victory over Uganda Martyrs’ University before grinding out a hard-fought 63–56 win against Makerere University in their final game of the day, maintaining momentum and composure under pressure.
Hosts Uganda Christian University gave their home fans something to celebrate, opening their campaign with a convincing 67–55 win over Makerere University to stake an early claim in the men’s competition.
Action in the women’s category was equally decisive, with UCU asserting their dominance in an 86–20 rout of Kyambogo University, showcasing depth and control throughout the contest. Kampala University also made a positive start on the women’s side, defeating Makerere University Business School (MUBS) 57–41 to cap a strong day for the institution.
With commanding victories, early statements of intent and hosts starting strongly, the basketball competition at the AUUS Games has burst into life, promising an intense and competitive championship as action continues at UCU Mukono.
