Matchday 2 of the Finance Trust Women’s Super League continues on Saturday across the country, with champions showing their class, contenders finding redemption, and defenses holding firm under pressure.
In Soroti, Kawempe Muslims Ladies finally broke their away jinx, defeating Olila High School 3-1 in an electrifying encounter. It was a statement win for the Warriors, who had gone six matches without victory over Olila.
Olila drew first blood early in the second half through Brenda Atwani, but Kawempe’s response was nothing short of emphatic. Shadia Nabirye sparked the comeback with an equalizer in the 66th minute before Agnes Nabukenya fired the visitors ahead just two minutes later. The already made star Latifa Nakasi, fondly dubbed the “new bay” of the Warriors, sealed the triumph in the 76th minute to cap off a dominant display.
The result sees Kawempe soar to the top of the table with four points, as Olila suffer their first home defeat to the Kampala-based side.
Meanwhile, in Kampala, Kampala Queens reminded everyone why they are champions. After falling behind early to Ndagire Josephine’s 3rd-minute header for Makerere University Ladies, the Queens rallied in style. Second-half strikes from Joanita Ainembabazi and Kamiyat Nayaiga turned the tide, securing a 2-1 comeback victory that keeps their title defense on track. This is the second consecutive time when Kamiyat Nayigaga rescues Kampala Queens and the first one came in opening day against Kawempe Muslim.
Over at Wakisha Grounds, Rines FC were left ruing missed chances after being held to a goalless draw by a resilient Asubo Ladies side. Despite dominating possession and creating numerous opportunities, Rines just couldn’t find the breakthrough as Asubo’s backline stood tall to earn a hard-fought point. For starters, Rines also missed a penalty.
The league continues on Sunday with Uganda Martyrs Lubaga hosts Amus College at St. Gerald Stadium, St. Noa Girls will be hosting Lady Doves FC as the five star She Maroons will play host She Corporate at Prison Grounds Luzira.
