Uganda Darts Association New Executive Holds Maiden AGM
On Saturday, 27, February 2021, Uganda Darts Association (UDA) held inaugural Ordinary General meeting at Cupper Chimney Lugogo.
It became the first Annual General Assembly to be guided by the newly ushered in Executive, it came in office last year and it’s under the stewardship of Lepi Bosco.
The AGM that was graced by James Kasumba, representative from National Council Sports, discussed more about the way forward and the development of the sport from grassroots.
Like any other sport, Darts was also affected by COVID-19 pandemic and they literally had no activities but as an association, they have tried to device means to see that the sport gets back to its feet.
“We have successfully held ordinary general meeting since being elected in office last year. The sport has been dormant since COVID-19 greatly affected us so much, we’ve tried to introduce technology to the game where so many people will congregate together.
We have devised a way of having our games between three or four people relayed live from our social media channels as opposed to other physical meetings.” Lepi, spoke to media after the AGM.
James Kasumba, NCS representative in the AGM advised the sport administrators to move the sport from corporate level to grassroot level to tap in talent if they want to develop the sport.
“The major challenge addressed is that Darts is mainly played and hosted by Corporate bodies leaving out the lower institutions such as primary schools. This could be attached to the nature of instruments used which are sharp and score the possible participants but with proper guidance, we can identify talents from grassroots and it’s upon the association to tap in talent.” Kasumba.
The Association still have a challenge and this is a debt of over USD1500 from international federation which also hinder their participation at international level.
