Busitema University Hosts 2nd edition of FEAUS Boot Camp, Targets Improvement in Students’ Leadership Skills

Busitema University (Main campus) has hosted the 2nd edition of the Federation of East Africa University Sports (FEAUS) boot camp that will take three days.
The Camp that is aiming at teaching leadership skills and knowledge to the University Students Sports leaders in East Africa has commenced today (Friday 13, September, 2024) and the University’s Vice Chancellor, Paul Waako was the guest of honor at the official opening of the camp.
The boot camp has attracted over 120 students representing 14 Universities from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
The VC has revealed his excitement to host the international event and asserted that the University is ready to invest more in sports since now Sports is a lucrative business.
“… And today we’re excited to host this international event and we’re really looking forward to having our contribution to sports in this country.” Said Prof. Paul Waako before adding. “I think the boot camp teaches our sports men and women resilience, discipline and commitment….I think the participants when they go back to their universities and countries they should further the spirit they have been able to generate in the boot camp because on top of the technical abilities one has, he or she should add on resilience, commitment and discipline because they are components in sports and even normal life. ”
The Coordinator of the camp and the Vice president Treasury and Finance in FEAUS as well as the Busitema University Sports Tutor, Dr. Agnes Baluka Masajja highlighted the importance of the boot camp to University students who are in sports leadership.
“Boot camps used to be for USA soldiers who had tough military trainings in the early 1900s, so we have also decided to bring these University students who have leadership positions in their universities to teach them leadership skills and how they can take this career even after school, how they can encourage the university leaders and students to embrace sports.” Said Dr. Agnes Baluka Masajja.
” Yes the turn up was a bit low because this Federation has over 53 Universities in East Africa but 14 managed to send in participants, maybe the communication wasn’t that good but we’re hoping to improve come next edition.”
The assistant sports and education coordinator at Daystar University in Kenya and the beneficiary from the first edition has also highlighted on the importance boot camping.
“My experience from the first edition, I say we really had fun and really enjoyed ourselves, most of us were empowered, we were mentored, I want to thank the FEAUS for the good coordination during the first edition…. And why I am excited for this second edition is the topics of discussion, it’s more of students centered and management, financial management, marketing and facilities management are among the key discussions. ” Said Daystar University assistant coordinator, sports and Education Barrack Aseke
The students also expressed their excitement to be among the few who are gaining from the program..
The event shall climax on Saturday 14, September 2024.
