Pepsi UFL: Kampala University Copies from MUBS, Petitions DC over St Lawrence Use of ‘Ineligible Players’
The two-time Pepsi University Football League champions Kampala University have petitioned the Association of Uganda University Sports Disciplinary committee claiming that St Lawrence University used Ineligible players in their two legged quarterfinal encounter.
For starters, St Lawrence University, the 2023 finalists, eliminated Kampala University out of the 11th edition at quarter final level after a 5-2 aggregate score.
In a letter written to St Lawrence University sports Tutor and this website has a copy, the AUUS Disciplinary committee asked the University to presented evidence that counter Kampala University’s petition and they need to do it in 48 hours.
The Professor Kateregga University claimed that St Lawrence used six Ineligible players in their two matches honored on 27th February at Luzira Prison playground and Crown City Campus Kavule on 12th March 2024.
According to Kampala University, the hat-trick boy for SLAU, Abura Michael is not a student at St Lawrence while Nkonge Saziri, who didn’t feature for Davis Nono side in group stages and Ssemujju Ivan are overaged.
“The disciplinary committee (DC) has received a petition from Kampala University (KU) regarding eligibility of some St Lawrence University players who featured in the quarter final games on 27th February and 12th March 2024.
KU alleges that:
Ssemujju Ivan is overaged and is doing a certificate course
Abura Michael is non-student
Nkonge Saziri is overaged
Kayemba Henry is a non-student
Kayongo Michael is a non-student
Mulwana Trevor is a non-student.” The letter read in parts.
This same instead happened last season at this level, (quarter final) when Makerere University Business School petitioned against Kyambogo University for the use of Ineligible player and the former won the petition.
If the ruling of the DC goes in favor of the petitioner, St Lawrence University will be the third University to be banned out of the league in one season. The two other victims are; Kyambogo University (indiscipline case) and Bishop Stuart University (use of Ineligible players).
The draws for the semifinals are to be held on Friday 15th March, 2024 at Kati Kati Restaurant Lugogo.
