Construction Industry: National Building Review Board Awards Soroti

On Saturday at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, the Ministry of Works and Transport in conjunction with National Review Board and Uganda National Action on Physical Disability organized the annual awards to recognize constructors.
These prestigious a wards aimed at recognizing and celebrating excellence, innovation and dedication exhibited by individuals and the organizations in the construction industry particularly in the areas of building fire safety and accessibility.
The awards were categorized into eleven categories and these include. Educational institutions Building, Health institutions Building, Religious institutions Building, Recreation Buildings , Residential Building, Mercantile Buildings, Civic Building, Building committee – District and Town council, Recreation Buildings – Up country and Building committee – cities and municipality that have prioritize fire safety.
Soroti City Building Review Board was voted the best this year, it beat other cities, and municipalities to have buildings that favor even the disabled.
The vice president H.E Jesca Alupo was the guest of honor who lamented that the building culture in Uganda is still poor despite the fact that the government has put clear guidelines and standards.
“Our building environment is yet to achieve the necessary accessibility and fire safety standards despite the government efforts through legislations and enforcement and I hope that these awards Will be a game changer through motivating the sector players to prioritize accessibility and fire safety aspects especially through the design and implementation stages of the Buildings”.
The under educational institutions Building machine workshop kichwamba beaten senate building (Soroti University) and Cocis Block B (Makerere University).
Under Health institutions Building Kawempe national referral hospital won and church of Jesus Christ of later day saints Jinja won the under the Religious institutions Buildings.
Four points by Sheraton Kololo won the category of Recreational Hotels Building in Kampala. On the side of Residential Buildings speke Apartments is the king.
