Victoria University 1-3 Islamic University in Uganda

Islamic University in Uganda revamped it’s hopes of making it to the quarters of the 2023/24 Pepsi University Football League season following their 3-1 important win over winless Victoria University.

The end to end encounter honored at IUIU Kabojja Female Campus, saw Islamic University ending Victoria University hopes as well as brightening theirs with a game to go to climax the group stages action of the 11th edition.

Watuwa Samuel brace and Shafik Imam Kawooya strike called the three important points for IUIU.

The only goal for Victoria University was scored by Mwesigwa Joram but wasn’t enough to secure any point for struggling city varsity.

As early as three minutes, Imam Shafik Kawooya, the skipper for Mbale based University handed them a lead with nice strike following a well laid free kick from Shikanga Emmanuel.

First stanza ended 1-0 in favor of the visitors.

In less than a minute into second stanza, Watuwa Samuel doubled the lead for the visitors, at the restart of the game, it was a quick counter attacker and speed merchant, Tamubula Ismail from the right flank laid a well calculated cross that beat Victoria University backline to find Watuwa Samuel in a nice position to tap the ball at the back of the net.

However, the following minutes, Victoria gained momentum and put visitors at the back foot, the pressure yielded a consolation in the 57th minutes, IUIU back failed to clear the ball from the danger area and Mwesigwa Joram had a huge strike that gave Victoria hope for at least a point.

They continued pressing at least for an equalizer, they knocked and knocked but failed to get another one.

With five minutes to fulltime, Watuwa Samuel returned in perfect time to relieve pressure off his side with a killer strike.

The loss meant the Victoria University road ended today, even if they win their last fixture on road against YMCA, they can’t make it out the group since they have only two points in five games played.

Islamic University maintained their second position in group B, moved to nine points but to clear their way to quarters, they have to beat MUBS in their last game at home.

MUBS still on top of the table with ten points, the side is playing tomorrow their 5th game as they host stubborn YMCA at Nakawa.
