East Africa Speed Skating Championship Ends 4 years absence, Kenya looks Exceptional

The East Africa Skating championship which was last held before Covid 19 pandemic has return with 3 nations honoring the 2023 edition.

The event was hosted by Uganda on Sunday 7th May 2023 at Namboole stadium with Kenya and Dr Congo were the visiting participants. 

Kenya was exceptional in this edition by winning the most number of medal.

Kenya’s Kelly Njega has to be the notable skater. Njega won the senior 40 lap race by double skating, his runner up Mario Lobo who also rapped third place, Ugandan Imran Sserumaga.

At the event closing, Uganda Skating Federation president Moses Dungu issued challenges resulted Kenya to overtaking Uganda in the successfully organized Championship.

“As we celebrate the return of speed skating, as Uganda we have become second, this is not the best we can produce but since we are not well equipped, Kenya had to beat us”

“Due to the finances we have at hand we can’t afford enough equipment for speed skating as just the Cheapest skating sheo is at 300 dollars that amount is too high for our athletes and the federation” He added.

Speed Skating is one of the skating disciplines.
The next outing for team Uganda will be Skat board Olympic qualifiers which is due to held in Argentina this Month and in Rome next Month.
