Bika Tournament: General Assembly Adopts Last Edition’s Report, New Laws, Committee Reveals the Road Map to This Year’s Final
With less than a week to the kick off of the fresh edition of Bika By’Abaganda football and netball, the organizing committee and the in charge of clans sports held a successful general assembly at Bulange Mengo on Monday.
The general meeting that attracted almost the 52 clans that make up Buganda tribe was graced by the Kingdom’s Attorney General who doubles as the Minister for Buganda Local governments, Owek. Christopher Bwanika and the Masaza Cup organizing committee chairman, Sulaiman Ssejjengo.
In this meeting, the members discussed the report of last edition that was climaxed in March at Wakulukuku, the report outlined the challenges the tournament faced, the success and the way forward.
The report was adopted by the members with advises, the other thing they discussed about is the new rules and regulations of the tournament.
In his address, the Guest of honor who closed the assembly, Owek. Christopher Bwanika thanked the clan heads and those in charge of sports in their respective clans for driving Kabaka’s vision and mission forward. He urged them to keep the fire burning even in this year’s edition.
“Doing better and coming together as Buganda is what we prefer, we must fight against all the irregularities, let follow the laws that you have passed today.
I thank you for the contributions made towards the laws, the love you showing to the Kingdom, let’s keep that ” says Owek. Christopher Bwanika.
One other speakers of the day was the chairperson, Masaza Cup organizing committee, Hajji Sulaiman Ssejjengo.
He has emphasized the clans, their heads, and sports heads to consider communication as a big tool that can bring Bika to the high glory, he asked them to sell the brand without segregation.
In the same meeting, the head technical Bika By’Abaganda football, Hajji Mansoor Kabugo revealed the road map for this year’s football competition.
According to Kabugo, the the winner between the two teams [Nkima and Ngabi Nsamba] that are playing on Opener on Saturday 13th May at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku will qualify to round of 32.
The loser will play the preliminary round.
The 24 best performers of last season will go straight to round of 32, those teams that didn’t performer better last season will go through preliminary, the qualified seven and the winner between Ngabi Nsamba and Nkima will join the 24 to make a list of 32 who will be drawn.
The winner of two leg play will qualify to round of sixteen and those sixteen teams will be drawn in four groups of four teams each. At this stage teams will play each other home and away and the best two will qualify to quarterfinals.
The preliminary round will be played between 24th May and 2nd June 2023.
Round of 32 will be honored from 7th to 16th June 2023.
The group stages will start on 21st June 2023 and final is expected to be honored in August 2023.
The 13th May 2023, His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda will grace the opener of the 2023 edition at Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku, entrance will be 10000/- ordinary, VIP will be 20000/- while students will be paying 2000/-.
