USSSA Boys Football Championship: Kayunga District Representatives, St Mathias Kalemba Safely Lands in Nyakasura, Holds Successful First Training

The only Kayunga district representatives in the nearly kicking off, 2023 USSSA Boys Football championship, St Kalemba SS safely landed in Nyakasura yesterday evening and today, they held their first training at the hosting ground of Nyakasura school.

For starters, this will be the first time for the Nazigo based school to take part in the finals of the top schools football competition in the country in 37 years.

In over three decades, St Mathias Kalemba S.S have been taking part in the qualifiers but failing, however, this year with the guidance of youthful tactician, Isaac Kitakule aka Ozil, they managed to make it to the finals and we’re pitted in group D with giants Jinja SS, Standard High School Zzana, Old Kampala S.S, Nakwasi Seed, St Kagwa High School, St Joseph’s College – Layibi and Bukedea Comprehensive School.

David Constantine Kawuma, the head teacher of the school expressed his  humbleness towards the school’s qualification.

 In a special way, he lauded the different stakeholders and parties at play.

“I thank the Almighty God for helping the school qualify for nationals once again after a very long time. I appreciate the school board of governors and the management committee for the sacrifice to support sports, football in particular. I salute the teachers, players, parents and guardians. We want to build a brand called St Kalemba. This is a special project for the school and we have the team at our hearts.” David spoke this at the flag off of the team at the school in Kayunga on Friday.

The tactician who brought back the school’s glory, Kitakule had this to comment on the flag off.

“I am humbled that we qualified after a lot of hard work. I thank the players, fellow coaches and management board for the support. We target qualification to the knock-out round after negotiating out of the groups. The teams in our group are quite experienced but we have the man-power to qualify” Kitakule remarks

St Kalemba will be having it’s opening fixture on Tuesday an they will be playing against Standard High School Zzana at 3PM.

Only two teams will be promoted from the group to round of sixteen.
