Badminton: National Team Coach, William Kabindi Hails UBA for Introducing Schools League
Despite the fact that the earlier Communication from Uganda Badminton Association indicated that the Schools National league weekend games were postponed to next week due to USSSA Qualifiers, the decision was reversed and the games were held this Saturday at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
According to the association, the communication from USSSA came on short notice, less than 24hrs to the action day and yet the schools were already prepared for the games.
Instead of wasting the weekend, the Association and the schools agreed to hold league games on this Saturday since they are the same schools playing qualifiers.
In an encounter with media, the one of National team coaches who doubles as head coach for Mbogo High School, William Kabinde, he revealed the importance of this league towards the game’s development and the national teams.
“With this league, it’s going to be easy for us to scout players, it’s going to be easy for us when it comes for trials, because we can easily trace them. The league keeps these players active so when we get any international event, it can be easy to spot them.”
“So we thank the Association for putting up this league definitely its so good for players and we the Coaches because players are active now. I think the Federation should go out and help the schools that are playing, in the way the Federation can send coaches to these schools that are playing such that can improve. And If they have potential again they can give out equipment to these schools and clubs in a way to grow the game.” Says Kabindi
Coach also asserted that the future of badminton is now bright because much emphasis is put on even schools, not for tournaments but the league.
Hellen Makumbi Namagembe, from Gayaza High School, who had the fist time to play competitive game and she has realized that she needs to take the game serious and even she won her singles.
Namubiru Patra from Kinaawa High School, lost her singles but she asserted that she is going to train hard to see that she can win her next games and she believes she can.
