FWSL: Martyrs Down Kawempe In Blockbuster Encounter

Sumayah Nalumu shined again as Uganda Martyrs ended their first half of the 2022/23 FUFA Women Super League (FWSL) season with a 3-1 victory over Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC in the match played on Friday 18th, November 2022.

Sumaya, who came in as a substitute for Brenda Munyana, utilized a free kick in the 86th minute to seal Martyrs much wanted victory at the Valley.

This third goal thus confirmed a comprehensive and comfortable three points for the Martyrs, slithering any lingering hopes of a point for the hosts.

Victory for Martyrs sends them to nineteen (19) points from eight (8) games, and hence second on the log, five (5) points behind first-placed Kampala Queens. 

Earlier on in the game, Latifa Nakasi and Brenda Munyana had scored for Uganda Martyrs, that is, in the 13th and 19th minutes respectively, to hand the visitors a deserved and comfortable 2-0 lead at the break. 

Hadija Nandago had a golden chance to pull one for Kawempe Muslim just before halftime but her penalty was saved by Kaidu Sharon in the 44th minute.

Just at the start of the second half, Shakira Nyinagahirwa pulled one back for the hosts, Kawempe Muslim, that is, in the 51st minute, giving them some hope of getting the equalizer and possibly a win, but the Martyrs side knew what the three points would mean to them and held on incredibly well to secure the maximum points.

The three points obtained on Friday against Kawempe Muslim bring the second away win of the season for the Uganda Martyrs Ladies and the fourth game still unbeaten against the Valley Warriors. 

The loss for Kawempe Muslim Ladies  leaves them on ten (10) points, and the side will have two months of a much needed break to prepare and re-organize themselves for the second round to fight for better results.

In the other game of the day, Lady Doves at home bounced back to winning ways with a 2-1 win against Uganda Christian University  Lady Cardinals.
