FWSL: Martyrs Earn Comeback Victory Over Doves

Catherine Nagadya and Sumaya Nalumu scored in the second half as Uganda Martyrs came from behind to register a convincing 2-1 victory against Lady Doves in the game played at St Gerald’s playground on Saturday 12th, November 2022.

Nalumu and Catherine’s goals came quickfire, that is, in the 61st and 62nd minutes respectively, to hand Martyrs’ ladies a fourth home win of the 2022/23 FUFA Women Super League (FWSL) season.

The win takes Uganda Martyrs to sixteen (16) points and hence stay third in the standings, just behind UCU Lady Cardinals who also have the same number of points but a better goal difference.

After surprisingly dropping three (3) points against Olila Ladies in their last game in Soroti, the Lubaga-based side (Martyrs) looked to be on the verge of dropping yet more points against Doves after going down by one goal at halftime, thanks to a 42nd minute goal from Dorcus Kwikiriza.

However, Martyrs, coached by Mr Kasozi, exhibited team work to bring victory back home to the large crowd in attendance at the playground, scoring two goals in a space of just two minutes and stunning the Lady Doves’ technical team.

Most of the credit has to go to Sumayah Nalumu, who scored the second goal. She has been a bench player for most games this season, but started the game following the absence of Nabulobi Patience. Nalumu wrote a big and bold statement for the Martyrs’ technical bench as to why she should start most of their games.

The loss for Doves leaves them on ten (10) points.

Elsewhere, Uganda Christianity University (UCU) Lady Cardinals continued with their winning streak, edging out Olila Ladies 3-2, thanks to goals from Ashiat Naluggwa, Sandra Kisakye and Akodrach, taking them to sixteen (16) points, and maintaining second place.
