USSSA Decides 2022: Okanya Patrick Misses Out As Returning Officer Reveals Final Nomination List

With days to the National elections of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association [USSSA] for 2022, the Association’s Returning Officer, has on Thursday released the final list of the nominated candidates.

Shockingly, the reigning president of the Association, Mr. Okanya Patrick is not among the candidates vying for the 2022-26 term.

Possibly, the current president had great opportunity to return in his seat but decided to quit which means by 30th July 2022, USSSA will be with another president not Okanya.

According to the nomination list released by the Returning officer, Mr. Opio Ekodeu on Thursday afternoon at the Association office at GNS Plaza Old Kampala, the current Association treasurer, Mr. Justus Mugisha is coming at the post of the president but unopposed. 

The first vice president has Hajji Kiteezaala Twahil, Vice president two, Okot Bitek, Vice president three, Apolot Harriet Margret and Secretary for women is Apolot Godliver and all these are unopposed. 

The only positions that will require voting on Saturday at GNS Plaza, it’s that of the committee members from Central regional and from Western Region, the rest remained unopposed.

“Of the 19 zones we have, each zone shall be represented by five delegates which totals to 95 delegates and the 19 executive positions we have, that means, we are going to have 114 delegates at the elective assembly.” Said the returning officer, Mr. Opio Ekedeu.

Mr. Ekedeu also revealed that the process since it had started, it has been smooth and found no hurdles.

“The process has been smooth, found no big problems, I thank the district officers who helped in this process.”

In the same press briefing at Old Kampala, the assistant returning officer, Mr. Richard Barigire revealed the Saturday program which will start at 9am and climaxes at 1:30PM at GNS Plaza Old Kampala.
