2020 Masaza Cup Semi Final Preview: Gomba, Busiro Face off With Final Spot in Sight

Busiro are vying for a place in finals of Buganda Masaza Cup for a consecutive time while Gomba are hoping to feature in the tittle match for the first time since 2017 when they crowned the championship.
Just one match separates all time winners in Gomba Lions from their finals f Masaza Cup since 2017 and Busiro from their 2nd appearance consecutively in the finals as the two sides set to lock horns in a mouth-watering semi final clash at FUFA Technical Center Njeru on Thursday 21st, January afternoon (12:00PM).
Busiro progressed to last four of the Buganda`s Football flagship tournament with a 1-0 win over two time finalists Mawogola (2004 & 2009) scored by Malida Kuteesa on Monday 18th, January at the same venue.
In the group stages (Bulange), Ronald Lukungu coached side (Busiro) thrashed helpless Buvuma Islanders (7-1), defeated Busujju (2-1), played to a one all draw with Kyaggwe (1-1) before winning Buwekula 3-1 in their final group game to top the group with ten (10) points.
On the other hand Ibrahim Kiirya coached side Gomba came from a goal down to eliminate Bugerere by 2-1 to advance to semi finals. The two goals were scored by tournament current top score Bbaale Charles.
In group stages (Muganzirwazza), Gomba defeated Kabula 4-0, Ssese 4-3 before settling for a draw (1-1) with Buddu to top the group.
“Our game against Busiro tomorrow is very crucial because it is after winning it that you can get a ticket to the tournament tittle match.” Stated Ibrahim Kiirya the head coach Gomba Lions.
“Both teams want to play in the finals but our preparation is better and we are set for the game.” Added Kiirya
On injury concern soft spoken Kiirya pointed out striker Juma Junior Lutakome as the only Gomba Lions player who is doubtful. Lutakome will be accessed on the match day fitness.
“We have trained penalty shooting because we wanted to make our Boys ready for any game situation that if we fail to have the business done in official full time minutes of the game we can still win in takes.”
“Our Boys (Busiro) are very focused and they know the reason as to why we are here.” Said Ronald Lukungu the head coach Busiro
“We promise the team will tussle it out whatever situation comes the way we have been doing since group stages.” Added Lukungu
Busiro will welcome Amuza Kalibwami who missed their final group game against Buwekula and quarter final game when they eliminated Mawogola.
Meanwhile in the afternoon defending champions Bulemeezi will battle 2016 champions Buddu for another single slot to the finals.
