Mubende: Shock As Another Student Commits Suicide

Police in Mubende District is investigating circumstances under which a Senior One candidate at Kasenyi SS commited suicide.

According to preliminary investigations, Julius Ssekiziyivu, 15, a day scholar, hanged hìmself a few minutes after returning from school for reasons not yet established. By the time Ssekiziyivu committed suicide, he was still wearing his school uniform.

The incident occured on Thursday 3rd, November 2022 at about 6pm in Kasenyi-Caltex village, Mubende District.

Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, Ms Racheal Kawala, said on Thursday evening that the deceased approached a one Pius, a neighbour to them, and asked him for a rope.

The deceased, according to Ms Kawala, was staying with his maternal uncle, Mr Lawrence Ssenyonga.

The detectives have since recorded statements from both Pius and the deceased’s uncle.

Ms Kawala has urged parents and guardians to always keep an eye on teens that are depressed and always feel free to talk to their children to know what might be affecting them.

Ssekiziyivu’s death comes barely two days after another student at Bukoyo SS reportdly commited suicide on Wednesday 2nd, November 2022. Denis Tukei, who hails from Pallisa District, is said to have committed suicide after allegdly misappropriating fees for the second and third terms amounting to 1.2 million Uganda shillings.
