World AIDs Day: Reach A Hand Uganda Launches New Campaign to Minimize HIV Spread

Reach A Hand Uganda is a non profit youth centred organization that focusses on youth empowerment initiative, today have launched a new campaign dubbed #IKnowKati aiming at reducing the HIV/AIDs spread in Uganda youths.
Notably in the areas of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
The # iKnowkati Campaign this year under the theme ” Ending the HIV epidemic by tearing down inequalities“
This will ensure that through collaboration with Global Livingston institute HIV related health information and services will reach to all people in the country with out bias whether is poor or not.
It will give priority to those who have been left behind because of their gender, age, or financial situation.
The campaign will also encourage the community dialogues in order to keep communities at the fore front of the HIV response.
The campaign in this year will run for seven days through out the first week of December aimed at sensitizing all people in Kampala, Kasese, Hoima, Kabale, Khagadi and Adjuman.
While addressing media at International University of East Africa in Kansanga, the Organization revealed that the world report indicates that 37.6 million people living with HIV across the world.
Young people aged 15-24 are thought to account for more than half of new HIV infections and up to a third of HIV patients are under the age of 25.
Humphrey Nabimanya the founder and CEO Reach A Hand Uganda ” we are ready to increase awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment as well as providing services in this area through it’s numerous initiatives and projects such as the iKnowkati Campaign. HIV testing and counseling all information will be disseminated and all kind of communication as far as HIV is concerned”.
The Adolescent girls and young women accounted for over 29 percent of all new HIV infections in 2020 , while young women accounted for 79 percent of new HIV infections among young person’s aged 15-24 years.
Uganda AIDS commission 2021 gender inequality and violence against women are at the heart of these alarming figures . Girls and women’s poor socio economic level continues to impede their ability to adopt and maintain HIV prevention behaviors.
The ministry of health has to remain strategically focused on confronting and tearing down such inequalities that continue to support the spread of HIV pandemic in collaboration with other government agencies and non state organizations
