Vipers Tasting Different Football Cultures, From Africa, Now ‘Citizens’ in South America
The 2019/20 Uganda Premier League Champions, Vipers Sports Club has on Friday Afternoon unveiled a new head coach from South America.
The Entebbe road based side has been coachless since Fred Kajoba opted to throw in towel to concentrate on national team the Cranes.
Today, the Club Patron, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa at the Club stadium unveiled a Brazilian tactician, Roberto Oliveira Gonçalves do Carmo as the head coach at Kitende, he will be assisted by Marcelo Cardoso, He put pen to paper on a three year employment contract.
Robertinho as commonly known, 60, played at Fluminense, Flamengo and Palmeiras among other clubs in Brazilian Serie A.
He has coached Fluminense among other clubs, and had stints in Africa with Stade Tunisien and Rayon Sports.
This means, Vipers has tasted a variety of football styles from Uganda as a country, Africa, Europe, North America and now eager to enjoy the South American style.
Since 2017, the club has been changing coaches while look for the best to hit their target of being number one in Africa.
Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa that he is an investor who minds much where his money goes and he will not stop hiring/sacking until he lands on a tactician who will guarantee the club’s success as well as players development.
“We mentioned that there was a vacuum and we promised that we had to replace with a person who can take up that responsibility,” stated Mulindwa.
“We needed a coach with strategic skills, someone with a vision, a coach is basically a teacher and we have got the right man.” Dr. Mulindwa said while unveiling the Brazilian tactician at Kitende.
Before switching to Foreign coaches, the Venoms tasted the style of local coaches, that include; Moses Golola, Abdallah Mubiru, George ‘Best’ Nsimbe among others.
The club in 2017 opted to spread it’s legs out of the country, they landed on the Portuguese tactician in Miguel Duarte Da Costa but never spent at least two years before he was sacked despite him winning the UPL title for the Club.
He was replaced by a Mexican coach, Javier Martinez Espinoza, but this one failed to impress his bosses especially on continent and he was also sacked. Micheal Nam Ouma might be forgotten but he is also in books of the Club, he was at Kitende for 203 days in 2019.
Now the club traveled and found another ‘spouse’ in South America, they time he will stay in that marriage, the discussions are for another day.
