USSSA Decides 2026: Mugisha Gets No Opponent as Third Vice President Position Race Hits Up
By Kayiira Jackson
Incumbent Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) President Justus Mugisha is poised to retain the association’s top office after emerging unopposed ahead of the USSSA Elective General Assembly scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Front Page Hotel, Namasuba.
Mugisha will begin his second four-year term (2026–2030) if endorsed by delegates during the elections that will commence at 10:00 a.m. under the supervision of Returning Officer Joseph Opio Ekodeu.
The elections are expected to be largely straightforward, with most national executive positions attracting only one candidate. The major contest will be for the position of Third Vice President, where Haji Twahil Kiteezaala, who previously served as First Vice President, has switched to contest for the Third Vice President’s office against Muhumuza Richard, the former USSSA Central Region representative, and Amanya Celia.
The First Vice President position has attracted only Harriet Margret Apolot, while Okot P. Bitek is unopposed for Second Vice President. Godliver Apolot is also unopposed for the Secretary for Women Affairs position.
A total of 95 delegates are expected to attend the Elective General Assembly. Each USSSA zone will be represented by five delegates, in addition to the candidates.
Following the elections, Central, Eastern, Northern and Western regions will each elect three representatives, with the electoral guidelines requiring that at least one of them be a woman. Kampala Region will elect two representatives.
The newly elected USSSA Executive Committee will comprise 22 members, with the Association of Secondary Schools Headteachers of Uganda (ASSHU), the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and the President Emeritus serving as ex-officio members.
