UPL: Sammy Sebaduka Fires KCCA Past Express in Narrow Derby Win
By: Haba Plan
Sammy Sebaduka emerged as the hero of the night as Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) marked their return to the old league format with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Express FC on Thursday, October 23, under the floodlights at Hams Stadium.
In a match that seemed destined for a draw, Sebaduka’s well-timed tap-in at the 70th minute, following a precise corner kick from Joel Sserunjogi, sent KCCA’s jubilant fans into ecstasy and handed the Kasasiro Boys all three points.
While the home side, Express FC, created several opportunities, they failed to capitalize on any of them. The second-half saw a number of chances squandered, leaving the hosts to rue missed opportunities.
The victory lifts KCCA to third place on the Startimes Premier League standings with 8 points from four games. The club will now aim to maintain their momentum and push for the league title in the 2025-2026 season.
For Express FC, despite a strong performance, the inability to convert chances into goals is a major concern. The technical bench will need to address this area ahead of their upcoming fixture against BUL FC in Njeru. Express remains in 7th place with 4 points and will be targeting a maximum haul of points in their next outing.
Next up, KCCA will host Cavalry FC at Lugogo.
