UPL: Mbarara City Holds Vipers In Kakyeka

The winless streak for Mbarara City continued as they played to a goalless draw with defending champions Vipers SC in Kakyeka on Tuesday evening.

The visitors were lucky to stay without a man less in just 5 minutes as defender Patrick Mbowa who was the last marker, brought down striker Henry Kitegenyi to deny him a goal scoring opportunity but was only shown a yellow card.

Few minutes later, captain Joseph Akandwanaho’s well taken free kick was well saved by youngster goalkeeper Komakech.

Play maker Bright Anukani was injured and Vipers mad a forced substitute in the first stanza of the game replacing him with Marvin Youngman.

Unlike in the first half, Vipers created some chances in the second half, however they were not smart enough to penetrate and hurt the opponents.

The best last chance of the game came in the 70th minutes when Vipers’ defender Livingstone Mulondo denied the Ankole side at the near post with a timely clearance.

The centre referee Stephen Kimayo ended the game as Vipers SC and Mbarara City both fired blanks in Kakyeka.

Vipers started the campaign with two wins in two games and they have dropped points for the first time this season however, they’re still unbeaten.

The Venoms are now 4th on table, 2 points behind the table leader Kitara FC while the Ankole Lions are 12th with only one point from 3 games.

In the next game, Mbarara City will visit Busoga United on 19th October in Jinja while Vipers SC will host SC Villa at St Mary’s stadium Kitende on 20th October.
