Ugandans Set to Hit the Road as LASPNET, Uganda Law Society Host Inaugural Justice Run

Mengo, Uganda — The Legal Aid Service Providers Network (LASPNET), in partnership with the Uganda Law Society (ULS), has announced the inaugural Access to Justice (A2J) Run, set to take place on 29th November 2025 at the Law Development Centre (LDC) Grounds in Makerere. The event, held under the tagline “Run4Justice,” will flag off at 6:00am and feature 3km, 5km and 10km routes.
The run is expected to attract over 5,000 participants, with the aim of raising awareness about the barriers preventing many Ugandans from accessing justice. It will also serve as a fundraising drive for the construction of the Legal Aid House, a project intended to strengthen LASPNET’s institutional capacity and long-term sustainability.
Alongside the run, LASPNET will host a Legal Aid Open Day, where legal aid service providers will offer free legal guidance, information, and support to individuals facing various legal challenges. The ULS will simultaneously hold a Sports and Fun Day for lawyers as part of broader efforts to promote physical and mental wellbeing within the profession.
According to the organisers, the A2J Run is designed not only to raise funds but also to shine a spotlight on the justice gaps that continue to affect millions of Ugandans.
“The run aims to highlight the bottlenecks in access to justice, create awareness about legal aid and pro bono services, and mobilize resources for the Legal Aid House,” the conveners noted.
Buganda Kingdom’s Minister of Lands and Properties, Owekitiibwa David F.K Mpanga, will serve as the Chief Runner, representing Owekitiibwa Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katikkiro of Buganda. He will be joined by senior representatives from the Judiciary, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Uganda Police Force, development partners, corporate sponsors, churches, and other key stakeholders.
Findings from the HiiL Justice Needs Surveys (2016, 2020 & 2024) reveal that 80% of Ugandans experience a legal challenge at least once in their lifetime, most commonly relating to land disputes, domestic violence, family disputes, criminal cases, and commercial disagreements. LASPNET says this underscores the need for collective action to make justice more affordable and accessible.
“We call upon the general public, well-wishers, corporates, lawyers, and everyone to join and financially support the A2J Run—because justice matters for all of us,” LASPNET appealed.
Participation in the A2J Run is open to everyone through the purchase of running kits priced at UGX 35,000 for Platinum and UGX 25,000 for Ordinary categories. Kits can be purchased at LASPNET Mengo offices, Total Mengo, ULS offices in Kamwokya, LDC offices in Makerere, online via qkt.io/laspnet, or on the day of the event.
