Uganda Joins World to Commemorate Sports for Development and Peace Day
Through the Training and Resources Network, Uganda joined the rest of the world to commemorate the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace which take place annually every 06th April.
This day was put in place to present an opportunity to recognize the positive role sports and physical activities play in communities and in people’s lives across the globe.
The celebrations in Uganda were held yesterday at Nakasero Primary School playground in Kampala and the event attracted over 200 kids/pupils from eight schools.
The theme for this year 2022 was; “Securing a sustainable and peaceful future fot all”
The kids including those with disabilities took part in number of activities like tag of war, table tennis, football, Athletics and others.
The guest of honor, and the president Uganda Olympic Committee, Donald Rukare asserted that such activities and events help them to draw a formulate a good policy that is aiming at developing sport in the country.
“As Uganda Olympic Committee we are happy to be part of this program, this is the day where we come together, it’s been celebrated under the Hi Five initiative and ideally shows us how sports can be used to promote development and here in Uganda we have been able to show how sports play an big role in other sectors.
And what we have seen here today is inclusive sport where able bodied and disabled kids come together and play sports, this is what the National Sports policy is looking at, the inclusiveness in sports we are talking about and we are happy that we have seen it Here. ” Donald Rukare.
The CEO of Cradle Sports, the organisation that is under the TRN revealed why they use sport ada tool to reach their goals.
” Basically what we are doing is promoting sports as a tool in promoting sustainable development goals, so we are seeing every sustainable development goal can be promoted by sports, it has the ability to reach the youth, today we have invited eight schools around Kampala to celebrate with us.” Said Paul Nyangabyaki CEO Cradle Sports the organisation under TRN.
