Uganda Cup: Kayunga United Defy Odds To Eliminate Seeta United

As the Buganda Region Football Association (BRFA) preliminary rounds of the 49th edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup roll on, BRFA 3rd Division League club, Seeta United FC were shocked by Kayunga District FA 4th Division League side, Kayunga United FC, with the latter inflicting a 2-1 home defeat in the second round two of the preliminary rounds.

The defeat at St Paul Bajjo Primary School playground meant that Seeta United FC’s chances of advancing to the next round have been put to a saddening halt.

The first half of the game was a bit of slow burner in terms of goal scoring, as it ended in a goalless draw, despite both sides having countless attacks and creating a number of scoring opportunities with none able to break the duck.

Six minutes past the hour mark in the game, Kayunga United FC went in front after Seeta’s James Wagutte put the ball into his own net from a well-taken cross by Kayunga’s Faizo Kiyega from the right flank.

Seeta United FC, in response, pressed high, and their efforts earned them an equaliser from Francis Ssembuya when he tapped into the far post from a well-taken cross by Rajab Jooga in the 71st minute of the game.

In the 87th minute of the game, the exciting youngster, Wasswa Hassan Kiyega, placed the ball into the far post after being released by Fred Bukenya to restore Kayunga’s lead and hence condemning Seeta United to a very disheartening loss.

The result means Kayunga United FC advance to Round three (3) of the Buganda Region FA preliminary round for the 49th edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup while Seeta United will have to wait till the next edition.

Kayunga United FC, who eliminated Ugandan youth football powerhouse, Rays of Grace Academy, in Round one, will lock horns with Katonga Group leaders, Kiyinda Boys FC, who ejected Kira United FC.

The winner between Kiyinda Boys FC and Kayunga United FC will take on the winner between Hope Foundation FC and Kakiri Town Council FC in the final round of the preliminary round of the 49th edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup in the Buganda Region.

Buganda Region will be represented by four (4) teams in the 49th edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of sixty-four (64).
