Taekwondo: Uganda Open Championship Returns After Two Years of Rest, Over Ten Clubs Participate

The Uganda Taekwondo Open Championship that’s held annually returned today to life after two years of rest due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The two days event has kicked off today, Wednesday 27th at the Nsambya Sharing Center in Kampala-Uganda and over ten clubs from three countries; Uganda (the host), Rwanda and Kenya are taking part.

And the clubs from Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya include; Police, Prisons, Vision Vengers (Lira), Mombasa cement (Kenya), Rwanda, Maroons, Tororo, Lee, Golden Age, Pan Africa, Ndejje Jaguars, Friends, CSCA, Extreme United Youth (Kansanga) and Pabo.

The Uganda Taekwondo Federation (UTF) vice president Ismael Mpanga Bbumba failed not to express his happiness and gratitude towards the return of the game after two years of Covid.

“We are proud as Uganda to host the Uganda Taekwondo Open here in Nsambya, Kampala with many participants from Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda. The sport of Taekwondo returns to full swing after missing out two years because of the Coronavirus pandemic.” Bbumba expressed.

The Vice president also revealed that they have an action pack calendar year, and the tournaments they are planning to take part include; Rwanda Genocide tournament coming next month, the Islamic games in Turkey, All Africa Games and World Championship.

In some of the bouts that were held on the opening day, Extreme United Youth’s Jimmy Obbo won his first Feather weight fight against Jacob Odeke (Maroons).
