Sports: Minister Flags off Team Uganda to Serbia, Encourage them to Embrace Sportsmanship
State Minister for Sports, Hon. Hamson Obua has today, Friday 10th, September 2021 flagged team Uganda that is to take part in the U-15 World Games to be held in Serbia.
This is the second time Uganda is taking part in this tournament and the first came in 2018, though it was an invitational.
At Old Kampala Secondary School, the State Minister for Sports, Hon. Hamson Obua flagged off the contingent of 47, 25 of them are players from six disciplines.
Honorable, asked the team to express high level of sportsmanship because that is what will determine their future since they are still young.
“Let’s go with the sportsmanship feeling, we are going to participate and compete, but it’s the same mindset for the teams like, Kenya, USA, England and others, they are also going to compete, so when you win, show that sportsmanship and the same when you lose.” Minister emphasizes the team.
“The 25 of you are under age, that means you all children, we are building for the nation.
It takes discipline, it takes focus, confidence, guidance from your guardians, then you will be great for Uganda in future. ” State Minister for Sports Hon Hamson Obua.
The contingent of 47 has 25 players, seven coaches, seven team managers, three referees and eight officials.
The tournament has at least 14 disciplines but Uganda will be taking part in six, that is; basketball 3*3, Athletics, Swimming, Chess, Badminton and table tennis.
Wycliffe Birungi, the Team Uganda Captain and a student at Kampala International School, the basketball player, after receiving the flag from the Minister, she assured Ugandans that they are coming back with gold medal.
“We have been training well, we are ready for the tournament, I and my team, we are going to work hard to see that we are coming back with the gold medal and Uganda should expect it ” Birungi speaking to this website.
The team is traveling today at 11pm, they expect to reach in Belgrade Serbia on Saturday.
The tournament is slated for 12th to 18th September 2021.
