Sponsorship: MTN Uganda Financially Boosts She Cranes Camp Ahead of Commonwealth

With exactly a week to 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth games in England, the Telecommunication leading company in Uganda, MTN has boosted She Cranes camp with a financial support of 50M shillings.

The sponsorship is in line with MTN Uganda’s commitment to bolstering sports in Uganda as a major driver for shared value hinged on the company’s Good Together notion.

The cheque was received by the Uganda Netball Federation President, Sarah Babirye Kityo and She Cranes captain,Joan Nampungu at a cheque handover ceremony held today at the Allen VR Stanley school training grounds at Maya, Wakiso.

While handing over the cheque, Dorcas Batwala Muhwezi, the MTN Uganda General Manager, Customer Experience hailed the Uganda National Netball team, the She Cranes for its tremendous efforts towards shining a light on the country by virtue of their incredible performance.

“The National Netball team has always done us proud through their hard work that has given us as a country, immense global recognition, and pride. As MTN, we are incredibly honored to support the Netball fraternity as they embark on their participation in the commonwealth games next week,” Muhwezi said.

Of the sponsorship package, Ushs. 20 million will go towards supporting the Federation’s administration, and the Ushs. 30 million directly to the players and coaching staff travelling for the games in Birmingham. This includes performance bonuses of Ushs. 3m each to the top scorer and the best player of the netball team, according to Muhwezi.

Uganda’s She Cranes, proudly rank 6th internationally and second to only South Africa on the African continent, according to the World Netball rankings as of March 2022 and UNF President, Hon. Babirye Kityo Sarah thanked MTN for the support and looking forward to retain the communication Giants.

“We thank MTN that they chosen Uganda Netball and She Cranes in particular, they have boosted the camp with 50M of which 30M goes directly to She Cranes team, it’s really a big boost as you all know that the team is setting off at Sunday night.

“It didn’t come out of the blue, we have been communicating to them and we believe that the relationship will continue between netball and MTN” said Hon. Babirye Kityo.

In the same line, the She Cranes captain, Joan Nampungu thanked MTN for joining other partners in Plascon Uganda and GoTV Uganda who are directly financing She Cranes activities.

“We are already boosted by this financial support, it’s good that such big companies are joining netball to support the girl child, we request many more to join us because we are even on campaign of fundraising money for construction of our home.

As She Cranes, we promise Ugandans tht we are going to do our best to lift the nation’s flag high in the commonwealth.”.
