Uganda Christian University 7-1 Busitema University

Uganda Christian University Cardinals scored seven on the day to turn the Busitema University boys, crying babies of the 11th edition of the Pepsi University Football League.

Harshly, the 2019 league champions at home, Mukono Campus, humiliated Busitema University, beating the 7-1 in their second group stage game.

Two hat-tricks were registered on the day taking the tally of hat-tricks in this 11th edition to three.

UCU’s skipper Gagganga Geofrey and Peter Kyomuhendo both appeared on referee’s score sheet thrice and Isaac Ofoyirwoth converted one, the only consolation for the visitors came from Okiria Joel who converted from the spot kick. 

The game looked a balanced one on the first quarter of the first stanza and in those minutes Busitema University looked a threat to the hosts, forcing UCU ‘s custodian Collins into an early save, however in on the 20th minute, Peter Kyomuhendo opened the scoring journey for UCU with a simple press when the Busitema back failed to clear the ball from the danger zone and he handed UCU a half time lead.

Just less than a minute into second stanza, Kyomuhendo doubled the lead with a near post strike.

Busitema pressed at least for a consolation and they did get a positive result for their mission when they won a penalty in the 53nd minute and calmly converted by Okiria Joel to make it 2-1.

The visitors continued to press for equalizer, since they saw it was possible to get it unfortunately before achieving the mission, UCU got a corner kick and Gagganga Geofrey stretched the hosts’ lead with a powerful header in the 64th minute and it was a turning point for goal raining.

Four minutes later, Gagganga Geofrey returned for an outside the boss scorcher to make it four for UCU before he completed his hat-trick in the 75th minute in style he went for a powerful shot that torn the net and became the first player this season to score the fastest hat-trick this edition, completed it in 11 minutes.

Isaac Ofoyirwoth also came on the score sheet in the 81st before Peter Kyomuhendo also completed his hat-trick in the 84th minute.

UCU now tops group D with six points in two games, Busitema remained second with three points in two matches despite a devastating loss on road.

“7-1 loss is a big margin but we have got a clear picture, we’re building a younger team, it’s a junior team, it’s the first UFL season for many of them, this result has helped us to know where we are, so that we correct our mistakes ahead of Kumi game, I do blame none of my players, I take the blame as a coach.

“They are now mentality down but I take them as my kids, I am going to talk to them father-child talk to see that they get back, this is a game of football, you win or you lose. To me this is the last loss, UCU will come at Busitema when we’re better than today.” Head coach Busitema University, Musisi Abdulnoor.

“It’s has been a very devasting one, raining goals on our side, for sure we have led the coaches down, the management down, we feel really we have let ourselves down plus my teammates, maybe I had to put my head up and maybe try to lift the spirit of my boys but it did not work out.
Thank God, it has happened at earlier stages, we are build, we’re very good learners, I am sure they are going to feel it at our home.” Busitema University captain Mukakanya Emma.

“7-1 at home is has been a good game for us, not the best but good, being home, I believe we had all the confidence and the fans to take on such a show, we managed that margin not because our opponent were weak but actually they are good team, but I believe we were just on our good day.” Ahumuza Collins, assistant coach UCU.

The league resumes on Wednesday when MUBS will be taking on IUIU at Nakawa.
