Olympic Games2020: ‘Uganda’s COVID Loitering’ In Japan, A Member of First Batch Tests Positive

The immediate good news circulated on Saturday night showed that the first batch of Uganda’s Olympiads arrived safely at Natira Airport in Tokyo Japan for the 2020 Olympic games.

However, the other news coming in from Tokyo according to France24 news, a member among the nine-man Contingent left Entebbe Airport, tested positive for Covid-19 at the arrival in Japan.

“The Uganda Olympic boxing team, with officials including Mizumoto Horii, deputy head of mission for Japan in Uganda, flag off the squad in Kampala before flying to Tokyo on June 17. Now a member of the entourage has tested positive upon landing” France 24 news reports.

They are the second team to arrive after Australia women’s softball squad on June 1.

“But one of the African nation’s delegation tested positive during screening at the airport”, a government official told reporters.

“The person tested twice but their condition remained unknown,” reported local media.

“I heard the person has been isolated based on regulations,” Hidemasa Nakamura, the Tokyo 2020 Games delivery officer, told reporters, renewing a pledge to take strict measures against infections.

Before leaving Uganda, the contingent was Vaccinated and tested negative for Covid-19.

The website is yet to identify the member who was Isolated.

The other members of the Ugandan party have already left the airport for Osaka, western Japan, where they will train ahead of the Games.

This was the first case showing positive Covid test results among Olympic arrivals from overseas, local media said.
