Nakivubo’s Grand Return: 2025 Masaza Cup Final Sparks Fan Buzz Over Online Tickets, New Prices

The legendary Nakivubo Stadium is set to roar back to life as it hosts the 2025 Airtel Masaza Cup final — its first since 2013. The announcement has electrified fans across Buganda, though it’s also stirred debate over the new online-only ticketing and tiered pricing system.
Following an inspection on Monday, Buganda Kingdom’s Minister for Arts, Youth, and Sports, Owek. Robert Ssalongo Serwanga, confirmed the venue and unveiled details for the much-anticipated November 1 finale.
“We’re bringing the Masaza Cup final to Nakivubo to celebrate the revival of this historic ground,” said Serwanga. “All tickets will be sold online to ensure order and convenience for our supporters.”
Tiered Ticket Prices and Online-Only Sales
Early bird tickets (October 8–20) will go for UGX 25,000 (Ordinary) and UGX 45,000 (VIP), while regular prices (from October 21) rise to UGX 30,000, UGX 50,000, and UGX 150,000 for VVIP.
Serwanga assured fans that the refurbished stadium — boasting upgraded stands, VIP lounges, and digital access systems — will offer a “world-class matchday experience.”
Fans Split on Pricing and Accessibility
While many supporters welcomed the return to Nakivubo, others voiced concerns about the fully digital ticketing system.
“It’s symbolic and emotional to see the final return home,” said John Kizito, a Ssingo loyalist. “Nakivubo is where Buganda football’s soul lives.”
Yet not all shared the same enthusiasm.
“The online system is efficient, but it leaves out fans without smartphones,” argued Grace Namagembe of Buweekula. “Physical outlets should have been kept.”
“UGX 150,000 for VVIP is high — but if the experience delivers, fans will pay,” added Ronald Ssenkumba from Kyaggwe.
Semifinals Set the Stage
Before the grand showdown, semifinal first legs on Sunday, October 12 will feature:
- Bugerere vs Ssingo – Ntejeru Ssaza Ground
- Buweekula vs Kyaggwe – Mubende NTC Ground
The winners of the two-legged ties will battle for Masaza glory under the bright lights of Nakivubo — marking a defining moment in Buganda’s football renaissance.
