Mukono Kings High School defeated St Mathias Kalemba Secondary School in penalty shoots to defend Greater Mukono Region Boys Football title in the ongoing 2023 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Associations championship on Saturday 15th, April at Nakifuma Ssaza Grounds.
Normal time of play ended in a barren draw (0-0) and the promising young star, Wafula David aka Fodo saved Two (2) penalties to guide his side regain the ownership of the region via 4-1 score line in the shoots.
In the shoots, Najib Bananywa, Stuart Miiro, Ben Kituutu and Douglas Enzama converted their takes on the side of Mukono Kings High School. For St Mathias Kalemba, only Erias Kayima converted his shoot.
“I wish to thank all teams which took part in this years championship in Mukono Zone where 120 Schools competited in Boys football category with each district having a champion”. Stated Richard Muhumuza, the chairman of Mukono Zone.
“Since we started playing this year, we have been challenged by the issue of none bona fide Students but the committee of the zone has worked very hard to make sure they eliminate them. We now have one appeal which have been filed and it has been forwarded to our delegate as we wait for the final ruling”. Added Muhumuza
“As of now, i can confirm to you all that Mukono Kings High School, St Mathias Kalemba SS Nazigo and Latifah Mixed Secondary School are the three Schools which will represent us on USSSA National in Fort Portal and we have much hopes in them”.
“I urge if you have a none bona fide student whom we did not trace, kindly clear and clear up the team because it will be very unfortunate to reach at National and they eliminate and return you here”.
This year’s champions from all the three districts did not make it to USSSA National championships. Namagabi SS from Kayunga, Quality High School from Buikwe and Dynamic Secondary School from Mukono all failed to reach semi finals.

USSSA wish to congratulate the zone chairman and his team members for organizing this years qualifiers and climaxing it well. Also congratulations to three Schools which are going to represent the zone at Nationals”. Said Ayub Khalifa Kiyinji, the chief guest.
At Region, Mukono District qualified Eight (8) Schools while Kayunga and Buikwe District each had Four (4) Schools tussling for the three slots.
