MoH Commences Mosquito Net Distribution to Market Vendors

The president of Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni directed the market venders not to leave their workplaces for 42 days as one of ways to curb down the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

He also directed ministry of health to distribute nets to the vendors to which the ministry responded today, Wednesday after five days of directive.

The exercise was launched by the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine at Nakawa market in Nakawa division.

She says that it’s not a punishment for the vendors to stay from their place of work but it’s one of the ways through we the nation can fight the deadly disease, so he asked them to keep following the SOPs for the directive from the president to have a meaning.

“We want you to use these nets well, they are to protect you from mosquitoes. It’s not a punishment for you to sleep here but it’s a way to fight this deadly disease, the fact is it kills, you may see people freely move but when they are already sick, so keep the SOPs. You doing a wonderful job, because even in lockdown we need to eat, so you helping our life to move on.” Dr. Diana Atwine to vendors in Nakawa market.

She also received 2000 Mosquito nets donated by Quality Chemicals Limited led by the executive director Emmanuel Katongole. The Ministry of Health, according to Dr Atwine will contribute 3000 nets to the exercise.

“Today we have received 2000 nets from the Quality Chemicals, we thank you for giving us support and as Ministry we are going to add more 3000 nets to make them 5000 to see tht everyone can get a net.” She confirmed.

In total, the Ministry of Health and KCCA will distribute over 5000 Mosquito nets in all markets around the City.
