Masaza Cup 2024: Butambala Holds Fundraiser Dinner, Needs 300M to ‘win’ Maiden Trophy

With only a week to the opener of the 2024 edition of the Buganda Kingdom prestigious football tournament, the Masaza Cup, a number of counties (Masaza) are finding all the ways of securing a bigger budget that will help them to be the 20th edition champions.

Butambala Sazza in their pursuit to finance the budget of 300 million shillings, they have held the fundraiser dinner at Hotel Africana on Friday, 14,2024. 

The turn up was very impressive at their first attempt to hold such dinners aiming at football team development and the Butambala chief; Katambala Hajji Magala Sulaiman was impressed with those who responded to the call he believes that they will get the 300 million shillings they are targeting to finance this year’s budget.

“I am impressed with the turn of people from Butambala and those who wish good to Butambala.” He stated. “Our budget this edition is 300 million shillings and this dinner is one of the avenues we’re expecting to get money. We shall also get to individuals to see that we get this budget fully financed because we want to compete this season.” 

In the dinner, Butambala collected over 10 million shillings cash and pledges close to 25 million shillings. 

Among those who raised the cash at this dinner is the Kampala University owner and educationalist Prof. Al Hajji Badru Kateregga, he raised one million in cash and pledged more 2 millions. Former Butambala Woman MP Lydia Mirembe Kalule raised one million,  Gombe SS raised two million shillings, Madina Islamic came with two million, the family of Ramathan Ggoobi, the Ministry of Finance permanent secretary raised two million shillings in cash, Kizito Phones gave out one million, Butambala RDC Lubwama Sulaiman Bukya raised 500,000/-, the Nakawa division speaker Luyombya Godfrey came with 500,000/-, Deputy Katambala Vincent Kabali Masembe also raised 500,000/- and other individuals also gave cash as well as pledges.

“This is a great initiative, I am very happy with this arrangement, it’s the first time I am seeing this from Butambala, so I encourage the organizers not to stop.” Said Prof. Badru Kateregga. 

The defending champions, Bulemeezi also held a fundraiser dinner at Fairway Hotel in Kampala and they raised 51 million shillings in both cash and pledges though the turn up was at a low scale compared to expectations.

Butambala is in Bulange group with defending champions, Bulemeezi, Buddu, Bugerere, Kyadondo and Buluuli. 

The tournament will kick off on Saturday 22nd June 2024 at Kasana Luweero where Bulemeezi will host Buluuli.
