Makerere Turns a Dumping Site, Residents Ask Authorities For Quick Intervention

The residents of Makerere Kikoni Zone B, Kampala have cried out for help from KCCA following excessive Garbage in their area that can easily expose them to unknown diseases.

According to residents near the play ground at Caltec Academy, it almost a year when the garbage are increasing minus being collected by the responsible parties.

The residents say that the Garbage are exposing both their lives to diseases especially their children who use that play ground.

It should be noted that the place in question is often used for public occasions like voting practices, health issues sensitization like about HIV testing and circumcision practices but the irony is that it’s the same place where people dump garbage but the authorities have not come up to do anything about the sanitation of the place.

According to Nabweteme Scovia a resident of Makerere Kikoni Zone B, most people that dump garbage aren’t residents of the area, so they call upon the authorities to at least remember them because they’re at risk of diseases that result from poor sanitation.

“We are tired of this, our children are exposed to dangerous diseases and what paining us most, those people who are dumping here garbage are not locals, we ask KCCA to mind about us.” Nabweteme spoke to this website.

In conversation with this website, the youths who normally use the ground for Sports activities, pushed the blame to locals who dump garbage at the location which they well know that it’s not a dumping place.

Not different from the above, some of the medical workers in the area have also raised their dissatisfaction on how leaders are being negligent on such issues which may result into outbreak of diseases and have also urged residents to avoid dumping garbage carelessly in such places.

In response to residents’ claim, Makerere Kikoni Zone B Chairperson, Kalanda John had no kind words to the residents for he said that everyone should make sure they pay for their garbage since no one is going to do that for them. And has also told residents to stop bothering leaders because they too have no solution for that.

Kalanda has also advised the owner of the land where people dump garbage to stop being negligent on his land, let him fence it or put a warning on those who dump garbage.
