India High Commissioner to Uganda Pledges to Support Kabaddi Sport

The India High Commissioner to Uganda, Shri A. Ajay Kumar revealed that his Country is in great contact with the Uganda Kabaddi Federation and ready to give support to the development of the sport.

The Federation held a mini exhibition of the game yesterday at Kati Kati Restaurant Lugogo and the event that had four teams, two for men and two for women, was graced by the High Commissioner, NCS Chairman, Donald Rukare, Boxing Federation president, Moses Muhangi and Robert Jaggwe, the Acting General Secretary of UUSFA.

The whole executive committee of Kabadi Federation were in attendence.

After the two demonstration games played on the evening where were saw, Hustlers KC and Angels squaring ties each at 40 points, and the men teams where Patina Pirates and Jaguars.

“The first Kabadi game was played in India, it needs few equipments to be played, and I have seen it’s well played in Uganda, so we shall see how to help them and how to help these players to get exposure.” Said High Commissioner before adding.

“We shall sit with Kabadi Federation, the Corporate communities and see how we can support the game.” 

Kabadi Sport came into Uganda in 2017, the federation tried to spread it to different parts of the country especially in younger people.

The Federation General Secretary, Edgar Mujuni revealed to this website as to why they held such an exhibition event.

“It’s a big event, it’s Corporate and it’s strategic to mobilize funds for the sport and National team. We wanted to expose the game to the Corporate world as a way of getting sponsors for our upcoming League.” Said Edgar.

Edgar also gave an insight into the game and how currently the public takes it.

“We used Covid-19 period very well, we had enough time to spread the game, we moved to different parts of the country and the good thing we found people at their homes and and indeed they welcomed us, as I speak a number of people now understand the game and we are still spreading the game.” Edgar explaining.

Mid next month, he national team for Kabadi will be traveling to Kenya for World Cup Quarters.
