If Peace is to Prevail in Uganda, Torture Must Stop, Govt Warned
Human rights defenders together with the Alternative social Movement an umbrella that advocates for a political change have challenged security agencies in the country to desist from acts of torture if peace is to prevail in Uganda.
Norman Tumuhimbise the National Coordinator of Alternative movement while addressing media in kampala today during the press conference organized to well come their colleague Ferdinand Lutta who was arrested, tortured and detained for 1 year at kitalya, said that acts of tourtue by security agencies in Uganda have become rampant which he says may cause problems to this country if not stopped .
Tumuhimbise adds that todate many Ugandans are rotting in jails after being subjected to too much torture but government have turned a deaf ear.
He has pointed out the one Kakwenza Rukirabashaija who is currently nursing wounds after being tortured and they have denied him passport to go abroad for medical care.
He calls upon public to join hands to fight and stop this in country.
Tumuhimbise has also condemned the the National Unity platform (NUP)and Kimanya-Kabonera Mp Abed Bwanika’s decision to dialogue with president Museveni as way of having his party supporters released.
“There are people personally wouldn’t want to wait my time, because Bwanika if he knew, negotiations he is talking were key, I wish he went to negotiate with Museveni to become a president because he wanted to be, if he knew that it works, he wouldn’t go to locals to get an MP seat, he would just go to Museveni and received it.
“I emphasize there is no way how a devil can be in the same dialogue with an Angel, that can’t work, the two a different, there is a devil which believes in torture and killing people, it’s either you with us or with them.” Furious Norman Tumuhumbise said.
Meanwhile Luta Fedinard has narrated how he was tortured
“The good thing, I was abducted before the cameras, I was blind folded, they made me drink substances I didn’t understand, then drink water like ten little, and do it frequently as they asking me, who command us to do what we do, I only replied that the good thing am in your hands, I am waiting only for my death.
There is a way they tie you like a dead body, they call it rolex, they put you in a small room where they pour water like every after three minutes…… After sometime they took me to Kitalya. ” Lutta narrated his ordeal
