FWSL: Hadija Nalongo Saves Penalty As UCU Registers First Victory against Rines

Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals first choice goalkeeper, Hadija Nalongo, made a brilliant save from the penalty spot, as her side triumphed over Rines FC 2-0 for the first in two seasons of Fufa Women Super League.
The match where former St Noa custodian made wonders was honored at Kabaka Kyabbagu Stadium-Wakiso on a hot Saturday morning.
Her save, in the 31st minute of the game, denied an equalizer for the Namusera-based side, Rines SS WFC, which could have brought the latter back into the game.
The penalty was as a result of a foul on Rines’ Yuster Kayesu by UCU’s Bridget Nabisalu in the box.
The Mukono-based side (UCU) had taken the lead through Jauharah Nabaggala in the 14th minute after Kauda’s failure to clear the ball from the box, awarding the ball to Nabaggala to score from close range.
Five minutes into the second half, UCU’s Ashiat Nalugwa doubled the lead, after taking advantage of the defender’s blunder to put the ball past Joan Namusisi, the Rines goalkeeper, who could have done better to prevent the goal from entering.
In the 75th minute, UCU Lady Cardinals, led by Coach Ahumuza, had a chance to score the third, but the woodwork saved the abysmal Rines FC.
Towards the last ten minutes of the game, Rines striker, Nalukwago, went past the UCU defenders, but failed to put the ball into net with only the goalkeeper to beat.
The result made Rines as among the three clubs in the league that are yet to secure any point in two fixtures this season, the others are Lady Doves who lost 1-0 against newcomers, Makerere University at home Katushabe and Asubo-Gafford Ladies FC who also lost 3-5 at home against Uganda Martyrs.
