FWSL: Asubo-Gafford still in White Lane Despite Defeat against Kawempe, Campusers Fail to Leave Red Zone
The relegation battle is still on and every after a match weekend, the talk changes the twist.
Apart from the top three on the log of ten teams of the FUFA Women’s Super League, the rest (seven) are still in relegation battle, some in silent while others in loud battle that can be witnessed by everyone.
The points gap between the 4th placed side, in this case, UCU Lady Cardinals and the last placed side, Makerere University WFC is only five points with three games to call it a season.
Despite losing their game on road against on form Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC 2-1 on Saturday at Kawempe Muslim SS Playground, Asubo-Gafford Ladies FC would be a side that lost a game and remained happier.
For starters, through Shakirah Nyinagahirwa brace, Ayub Khalifa charges leapfrogged Asubo-Gafford to maintain home unbeaten run, the goal for Asubo was scored by Kamiyat Naigaga, the on form who has scored five goals in five games since she joined Asubo in second round.
Asubo moved a place down from seventh to eighth and the goalless draw for Lady Doves and She Corporate, a 3-2 win for Rines SS WFC against Makerere University WFC worked in the favor of Asubo at least to remain in white lane for another week.
“We have gave in our all, we played well but the chance wasn’t ours but we are not moved, the mission is still on, we want to stay in the league and I believe with the game we played today [Saturday] and togetherness we have in the team we can still make it.” Said on form Asubo-Gafford Ladies custodian Lukia Olga.
Their tactician, Rogers Nkugwa changed his goal posts basing on what is folding with three games to go.
“At the start of second round, I told you [media] that I need four wins in nine games but the target has changed because even though we are with in relegation battle are winning so now I need more six points in my last three games to survive relegation.” Said Rogers Nkugwa.
Their 3-1 loss at home against Kampala Queens on Sunday, brought Olila High School WFC in relegation battle, they dropped to 7th place and only a point above red zone.
UCU Lady Cardinals is also not safe, they lost a crucial game at home against Uganda Martyrs which also put them in a worrying mode.
UCU Lady Cardinals, She Corporate, Rines SS WFC, Olila High School, Asubo-Gafford Ladies FC, Lady Doves and Makerere University WFC, their survival will go to the wire.
